My year at MTV has officially come to an end, and I'm leaving 1515 Broadway with unforgettable memories. There were many highlights of my experience as TJ: appearing on the VMa pre-show, shaking Barack Obama's hand at his town hall, getting a kiss on the cheek from Rihanna, meeting Kanye West the night he premiered "Runaway"...I could go on. The greatest part, though, has been the outpouring of support from my followers. I'm so grateful that this year allowed me to get even closer to you guys, and I will never forget how humbled and overwhelmed I was the night I won TJ. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me and my journey, and I hope you continue to follow me @gabifresh (and my blog, gabifresh.com).
For more on what's happening with me and for any TJ news, make sure you follow @MTV! Thanks again for making my last year so great!
It's been a few days since the news of Amy Winehouse's untimely death, and it's not any easier for me to write about. I've mentioned this here before, but believe it or not, I'm actually not a huge music person. I love music--but I'm not one of those people that has to hear it all the time and that knows every emerging artist before anyone else. I don't even own an iPod. But Amy... There was something about Amy. She got me through my first big heartbreak, she pulled me out of depression. When no one else could relate, Amy was there. Emo? Yes. But Amy Winehouse inspired so many of us to find light; I only wish she could have found her own.
As saddened as I am about Amy's death, I'm even more saddened by the way I've seen people reacting to it. Most have been kind, but far too many have made jokes about her addiction, which is immature, and...not funny. I mean, do you really think you're the first one to tell that rehab joke? (Hint: you're not). I urge everyone to think twice before they criticize those with mental illnesses and addictions. It doesn't make you funny, witty, or somehow better than; it shows immaturity and ignorance about a very real and very scary disease. Rest in peace, Amy. You will live on in your breathtaking music.
I'm so excited that two of my favorite people at MTV have gotten their own web show! Tamar Anitai, editor of MTV Buzzworthy, and James Montgomery, senior music writer at MTV News, have teamed up for "Bigger Than the Buzz." As two of the most pop culture savvy people I know, I couldn't think of a better duo to discuss the coolest things going on in pop music. The pilot episode just premiered and it's hilarious! Check it out below:

As many of you know, my passion is fashion! I was really excited when Wilhelmina Models contacted me to style a photo shoot for my plus size fashion blog using my favorite summer time looks. I love color blocking right now, so I put together eight outfits, and after many hours of hard work, the final product is finally here! My favorite look has to be the one below seen on Amanda Dougherty:
But I love them all! To see the full spread, head over to gabifresh.com and let me know what you think.

Last Friday I had the honor of speaking on a panel at the National Organization for Women's (NOW) Annual Conference. I was so humbled to be sitting next to one of my idols, plus size model, Kate Dillon. She was the first plus size model to grace the pages of Vogue! Such an icon!!
The topic was body image, and I shared with the audience my journey to loving my body. I explained to them the importance of visibility in the media and how critical it is for all women to see other women who look like them. The thing that really changed my life was getting involved in online communities that focused on plus size women with positive self-images. Seeing pictures of women of different shapes, sizes, and colors eventually changed how I saw myself. I'm so grateful to have this platform as the MTV TJ, and I hope that I have inspired someone who looks like me to know that they are beautiful just as they are.
I cannot explain how humbling it was to speak to the members of NOW after the lecture and see how many people our words touched. It definitely reinforced for me that I am doing the right thing with my career, and I can't wait to continue to spread this message as far as possible. Love yourself!
Last night, I had the pleasure of attending an event to celebrate the debut of a shapewear line in the US (NearlyNude), and the beautiful and talented Sky Ferreira just happened to be DJing! She was awesome (seriously, I had no idea an 18-year-old would be that good!), and was kind enough to let me take a pic with her behind the booth!
In our image-obsessed culture, it's rare that we see any celebrity in public before being professionally primped. Imagine my surprise, then, when I saw Sky dressed down. Don't get me wrong, she's stunning with OR without makeup, but it did catch me off guard to see the young singer in a simple black v-neck tee, a pulled back bun, and a bare face (save for a bit of lip color):

I think she looks gorgeous, but what do you guys think of the look? Is it awesome when celebs break out of these crazy expectations or do you think getting all dolled up for events should just be a part of the job? Let me know in the comments!

By now we're used to Sway interviewing the best of hip-hop each week on RapFix Live, but somehow he manages to always keep things fresh for the audience. Yesterday, it was Juelz Santana's turn to sit on the red couch, and he had no issues opening up bout what's been going on with him lately. Most recently he's been in the news because he was arrested on a few different charges--including possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance--after his studio was raided this past January. According to Juelz, he wasn't even on the scene that day! He had a long (and I mean long) discussion with Sway about the notorious hip-hop police and the role of authority in society, which I found incredibly interesting.
Later in the interview, Juelz discussed past beef in the hip-hop community, and directly addressed situations including Cam'ron, Kanye, and Jay-Z. We find out what really went down in a few different scenarios, including how Yeezy's beat for "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" was originally given to Cam, only later to be given to Jay--Cam wasn't thrilled. Talk about drama. Juelz goes super in-depth, and though he is respectful throughout, rarely will you see ANYONE say anything even slightly negative about Jay-Z because he's a living legend. I was really intrigued by Juelz's honesty and perspective.
During the hour long chat, Sway even went as far as to ask Juelz what happened to his career (he was hitting it big at the same time as Lil' Wayne) and the rapper didn't hesitate to acknowledge things dropped off for him. If I'm being completely honest, when I hear the name Juelz Santana, the first thing I think of is his feature on Cam'ron's hit single, "Hey Ma." I LOVED him in high school, so I was more than excited to grab a quick picture with him before the show. Though I'd be lying to say he's been on my radar lately, this interview definitely made me see him in a different light and I look forward to hearing more stuff from him in the future.
It was possibly the most real discussion I've seen on RapFix (which is saying a lot, because Sway really knows how to make people feel comfortable). Check out the video below and see for yourself!

I'm taking a moment to profess my undying love for Tumblr, the microblogging social network. Though its members seem to do everything possible to not spread the word about the fabulousness of the site, I can't help but tell everyone I know about it! Things are shared so rapidly that it's hard to keep up, but each day Tumblr brings something new (like Beyonce's latest W Magazine cover/spread) to my attention. Today's gem? A YouTube video featuring Zach Galifianakis singing Anita Baker's "You Bring Me Joy."
Now, this video is not new by any means, in fact it was uploaded in 2009, but without Tumblr, I can guarantee I never would have seen it. Watch the hilarious clip below; I dare you not to laugh:
It's finally warming up in NYC, and there's no better way to celebrate than by rolling down your windows and turning up your radio. There are five songs that I cannot get out of my head lately, so I've deemed them my official summer jams:
1) Beyonce f/ Andre 3000-"Party"
It's no secret that I'm a Bey stan, so when this song from her upcoming album, "4," recently leaked, I couldn't resist listening. (Don't worry guys, I'm still buying it when it's officially released). Andre 3000 has always been one of my faves, so there was no way I wouldn't fall in love with this. "Party" is definitely a new sound for Beyonce (it actually reminds me a bit of her little sis Solange's vibe), but I'm 100% into it.
2) Kreayshawn- "Gucci Gucci"
I'm sure by now most of you have seen (or at least heard about) Kreayshawn's video for "Gucci Gucci." She took the internet by storm, and her vid now has almost 2.5 million views on Youtube. The west coast rapper actually stopped by the MTV studios today and even freestyled for us, and I'm totally loving her swag. There's nothing like a catchy hook, and what can get stuck in your head faster than repeating "Gucci Gucci Louis Louis Fendi Fendi Prada" over a hot beat???
3) Robyn-"Call Your Girlfriend"
This song has been out for a while, but Robyn recently released the video and I cannot stop watching it. If you haven't seen it yet, you have got to check it out. The concept is super simple (it's shot in one take!) but the song's energy and Robyn's dance moves definitely make it fun enough to play over and over.
4) Jessie J-"Rainbow"
Jessie J is one of the most talented singers to come out in a while, and I've been following her since her YouTube days. I'm so excited she's finally hit the big time on this side of the pond! Her entire album is amazing, but something about "Rainbow" always gets me hype.
5) J. Lo f/ Lil Wayne- "I'm Into You"
I think we can all admit that when Weezy's on track, it's automatically a hit, and this one's no exception. Maybe it's the "I'm Real"-loving high schooler in me, but I couldn't be happier that J. Lo's back and better than ever. Um, also? I can't watch that video without getting a little hot and bothered. She's totally giving me Shakira.
What are you guys bumping this summer? Let me know in the comments!

Most of you probably recall that a few weeks ago, I was sent to Culver City, California to attend the taping of Unplugged featuring none other than Lil' Wayne. I had an absolutely amazing time, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my year!
Now that the air date of the actual show is so close, I decided to give a full run-down of my experience there. You can read it all on Buzzworthy, plus see an exclusive clip of Wayne's performance of "Six Foot Seven Foot"!
The video below shows my short but sweet interview with Weezy after the concert:
Make sure you head on over to MTV Buzzworthy to read the full post! And of course, tune into MTV this Sunday, June 12th at 9pm ET to see the entire Unplugged and judge Wayne's performance for yourselves!
